YOUR GIVING HELPS ME TO HELP OTHERS

THE GIFT OF GIVING

Giving is something that doesn’t come easily to most people. Human nature leans much more toward receiving than giving. This attitude changes only when we understand that giving benefits the giver more than the receiver. “For it is in giving that we receive.”

Jesus gave His life. Most of us are only expected to give some of our time or our talents or our treasures, which are all God-given. The Bible says that giving always leaves us with more, not less. “One man gives freely, yet gains even more; He who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.” “He who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.”

When it comes to giving, a few people always put themselves first; a few always put others first; all the rest of us fall somewhere in between. To grow in giving, every person needs to ask: Where do I fall on this continuum of giving? On those occasions when I’m able to put others first, the passage, “It is more blessed to give than to receive,” always rings true!
